Training

Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine

The Westmead Trauma Service supports training for a Provisional Fellow in Trauma Anaesthesia. This is an annual post, predominantly based in Anaesthetics, but with regular clinical weeks with the Trauma Service. The anaesthetic component is designed around providing comprehensive anaesthesia for trauma cases through attendance at major traumas, as well as providing anaesthesia for trauma-related operations (orthopaedics, OMFS, plastics, neurosurgery). In addition, there is a focus on regional anaesthesia for trauma patients. The Trauma Service component provides the fellow with a global view of trauma management.

Westmead Trauma is an accredited term for Emergency Medicine Special Skills Placement. Four trainees rotate through the Trauma Service per year. The Emergency Medicine trainees participate in all aspects of trauma care, and function as one of the team’s registrars.
